Japanese electronics company, Sony will soon launches a smaller and cheaper e-book if compared with the products from Amazon.com, Kindle. Factory price of the reader pocket edition is 100 U.S. dollars, or about Rp 994 thousand. The price is certainly cheaper than the similiar products from the competitors. Same as previous versions, this product has the look "electronic ink" that displays the text with dark background and a light colored. Meanwhile, the five-inch screen size is smaller than previous models. This reader can not plays digital music files. It also does not have the memory card slot for internal storage up to 350 books. Retail price of this product is 199 U.S. dollars, or about Rp 1.975 million. The price was three times cheaper than the Kindle previous models and around 80 U.S. dollars cheaper than the previous product of Sony, PRS-505. Meanwhile, the color will be available in three options namely blue, red, and silver.
President of Sony Digital Reading Business Division, Steve Haber, hoping the price will attract new consumers previously not interested in the product like this. For that, Sony said it would also introduce a 299 U.S. dollars touch-screen device with a 6-inch display and slots for Sony's Memory Sticks or SD cards. The Tokyo-based company said it also was dropping the price of bestselling and new-release titles sold at its website to 9.99 U.S. dollars from 11.99 U.S. dollars, matching the price of digital books sold on Amazon.com.
